I've finally, after nearly two decades of research, made some headway on Catherine's family lines. If I haven't rabbit trailed onto a couple with the same names (easy enough to do strangely) then Catherine's parents names were Henry and Catherine Hughes of Birkenhead, Cheshire, England. More to follow as I discover additional information but I cannot tell you how nice it was to confirm some of my earlier research.
With this discovery I might be able to better follow the connections of my most recent family ties to the UK.
